Monica Conners

University of Victoria
MA Candidate

Monica’s work serving vulnerable populations with varied previous educational experiences began in 2006. Gaps in her knowledge about how to best teach English learners with limited literacy in their first languages led her to pursue her master’s degree at the University of Victoria in British Columbia in 2019.  Her research focuses on creating and implementing employment-focused task-based English lessons for beginning adult Syrian refugee learners in Canada. She believes that language learning should be fun, meaningful, and relevant and that the classroom environment should respect and honor the richness of experience that each student brings with them.
