I recently completed my doctorate in literacy, with a bilingual literacy focus. This degree (Sam Houston State University 2021) compliments my MA TESOL (SHSU, 2013) and BA Linguistics (University of Arizona, 1985). Language, culture, and diversity have always fascinated me, as interaction with people from different cultures reveals a variety of world views. I taught in Majuro, Republic of the Marshall Islands for 3 years and based my dissertation research study on these experiences. After the RMI, I spent 6 years in Saudi Arabia (KAUST), working with international STEM masters and PhD students perfecting their academic writing. Teaching in the teacher ed prep program at SHSU for the last 5 years has allowed me to integrate my international teaching experience with my courses and bring diverse perspectives to the undergraduates. I am passionate about the diversity of our planet, the equity of the systems, and the inclusion of all.
